gravity is the original name of a weekly teaching and learning series that grew out the monthly Soup's On! meetings organized by Jonikka Charlton. In fall 2013, gravity became the name of all the writing program's professional development activities, including our weekly meetings, orientation workshops, and special events. Starting in fall of 2014, Colin will compile all these materials in a free iBook publically available. All official program documents are also below.

Gravity iBook (available through iTunes Books)

What began as a folder of paper documents in 2013 will now be an easily updatable iBook, one in a series with other institutions creating volumes shared amongst our writing programs. Volume 1 will contain all our materials for our 1415 bi-monthly meetings and support our launch of the guest speaker series featuring Doug Downs (1 hr 3 min), Linda Adler-Kassner, and Cris Elder.

Teaching Observations

For 1415, Colin will be having sitdowns with every instructor in the fall while instructors arrange peer observations for the fall and spring. For more info on our observation philosophy and process, read the Overview document. Make sure to complete a cover sheet for each observation and take note of them for annual review credit. Colin will observe each Teaching Assistant every semester s/he teaches. He also encourages them to observe at least one peer per semester, with the suggestion that everyone observe a peer in the fall and a full-time faculty in the spring.
